They came from all walks of life, some of them bravely looking for a ‘great adventure’, others more apprehensive. Many thousands of Chester men and women have served their country and, in too many cases, lost their lives.
This photographic exhibition looks at the people behind the relentless drumbeat of war – the soldiers, sailors and airmen, the Home Guard, the firemen, the nursesand the auxiliary workers – whose courage and sacrifices ensured our freedom.
