Model Ships : Frank Wilson

Nantwich Museum

1st December 2010 - 15th January 2011

A Free Exhibition in the Community Gallery ....

The exhibition features three large and detailed models RMS Titanic, KMS Bismarck and HMS Victory, all made by Nantwich man, 82-year-old Frank Wilson.

The Titanic was assembled from parts received in 100 weekly instalments of The Daily Mail weekly magazine about the ill-fated vessel.

Kit parts are typically supplied in rough form for finishing by the modeller. The metal parts include cannons and, in the case of the Titanic, 1,200 brass portholes.

Even the on-deck area aft of the ship is there in intricate - almost invisible - detail.

The magazine's model designer used the original Harland and Wolfe plans for the Titanic.

Frank's next task will be making a scale model of an 1870 Mississippi paddle boat.

Frank also made the display cases - not from supplied parts this time.
