Mark Holocaust Memorial Day at Northwich Library with a talk by Anthony Annakin-Smith.

The talk is a fascinating and moving opportunity to see and discuss original correspondence written by prisoners being held in WWII Nazi concentration camps and ghettoes, including Auschwitz and Dachau. It gives a unique and extraordinary insight into  the lives and fate of prisoners of various nationalities and faiths and the appalling camps they occupied.

5.30pm - Tickets £2.00

or from the Main Desk in Northwich Library.

Today commemorates the day in 1945 when the Red Army liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest of the Nazi Death Camps.

Holocaust Memorial Day website and information booklet.

In 1942 soldier Arthur Dodd, from Northwich, was captured by the German Army and sent to one of the camps at Auschwitz to do forced labour. He survived, and later worked for British Waterways in Northwich. Read his story "Auschwitz: A British POW's Eyewitness Account", written by Colin Rushton, here.
